Job Description
- Work Week
Monday - Friday 8 am - 4:30 pm | Flexible hours to meet department needs including some evenings and weekends.
- Position Summary
The Assistant Vice President of Finance oversees and directs all the area personnel in the accounting and finance department and works closely with the Chief Financial Officer in all matters. This position is critical to the College’s effort in providing quality financial and accounting information to all College stakeholders for informed decision making and collaboration.
- Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
- Directs the day-to-day operations, supervision, and oversight of the Accounting and Finance office, including:
- Accounting
- General Ledger
- Accounts Payable
- Accounts Receivable
- Financial Reporting (internal and external)
- Grant Accounting & Regulatory Reporting
- Payroll
- Compliance with the appropriate accounting procedures in accordance with GASB and GFOA standards, Board of Trustees’ policies, and state and federal law.
- Responsible for the maintenance and accuracy of all accounting records. Works with the College’s administration to insure the completeness of its accounting records and their supporting documents.
- Coordinates the annual audit and prepares the annual audit report in accordance with GFOA guidelines. Works with and assists the independent auditors (as well as federal and state auditors) for all reporting requirements.
- Assists in the preparation of cash flow projections.
- Assists in the preparation of the multi-year Financial Plans.
- Responsible for relevant financial and accounting related ICCB and IPEDS reporting and submission.
- Responsible for preparation of unit cost reporting.
- Assists with the investment of excess funds in accordance with the Investment Policy and state law.
- Assists in determining operating cash needs of the College.
- Assists the CFO with the College budget process, including, but not limited to:
- Capital budget development process and general ledger setup.
- Reviewing and analyzing budget versus actual.
- Preparation of monthly reports for executive management and/or the Board of Trustees.
- Assisting senior management in developing, implementing, and adjusting the long-range fiscal planning and forecasting.
- Assisting in the preparation of budget documents in accordance with official guidelines.
- Provides accounting/ fiscal related information and support to the College’s administration for decision making.
- Responsible for the recording and proper treatment of leases and software and other transactions per GASB requirements.
- Maintains internal controls and the Accounting Manual to model best practices.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS:- Support and participate in the College’s commitment to the process of accreditation.
- Participate in the College ERP Advisory Team.

- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Directs the day-to-day operations, supervision, and oversight of the Accounting and Finance office, including:
- Required Qualifications
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, business administration, finance or similar field required.
- CPA designation or in the process of earning it is highly recommended.
- An equivalent combination of education, certifications, and experience will be considered.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:- Five years work experience in a financial or accounting environment
- Audit work, either as an auditor or coordinating and preparing audit documents
- Prior budget and general ledger responsibility and involvement
- Experience with payroll, accounts receivable, and accounts payable
- Knowledge of federal grants and compliance
- Experience in preparing and/or analyzing financial documents and related information
- Supervisory experience
- Master’s Degree in accounting, finance, or related field
- Knowledge of fund accounting
- Education or non-profit experience
- Technological competence with the ability to utilize technology to improve efficiency, including the use of database, word processing, spreadsheet, and mainframe accounting systems.
