Position Summary
The Development and Fundraising Director is a full-time position reporting to the Executive Director. This position is a member of the leadership team and is responsible for identification, cultivation, solicitation, renewal, upgrade and stewardship of individual donors to enhance the sustainability of Tichenor Clinic’s services. This position has full supervisory responsibility for a part-time Development and Communications Assistant.
The Development and Fundraising Director's goal is to broaden the donor base and increase the average size of donations. This position will have the exciting opportunity to lead the organization’s centennial fundraising efforts and celebratory activities in 2026.
Candidates who are familiar with the Long Beach, CA area and/or have established connections within the community are preferred. Local knowledge and relationships will be considered a valuable asset for this role.
The anticipated start date for this position is January of 2025.
About Tichenor Clinic for Children
Tichenor Clinic for Children’s mission is to maximize children’s abilities by providing therapy and parent support to those with limited access. The clinic is one of the oldest nonprofits in Long Beach, serving children with disabilities (e.g., developmental delays, musculoskeletal or neurological conditions, and/or genetic disorders) regardless of their family’s ability to pay. Our core programs include occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech-language therapy; an early intervention program; water safety and swim instruction; and parent support, education, and empowerment.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent experience.
- At least 5 years of demonstrated success in direct fundraising with a focus on managing a donor portfolio.
- Experience initiating and conducting donor visits and fundraising calls, with demonstrated success at securing sponsors.
- Experience working for a non-profit organization preferred.
Qualifications
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to tell a compelling story.
- Knowledgeable about the latest fundraising tactics and their effectiveness.
- Excellent understanding of marketing/communications and how to utilize them.
- Complete deliverables in established timeframes while maintaining flexibility.
- Proficient with fundraising software, Microsoft Office, Canva and Adobe.
- Deep understanding of or lived experience with disability highly valued.
- Able to work occasional nights and/or weekends to attend events.
Essential Position Responsibilities
Fund Development
- Annual creation of the fundraising strategy.
- Cultivate donor prospects, manage portfolio to ensure organizational revenue goals are met, steward donor relationships, and upgrade current donors to larger gifts.
- Lead efforts to schedule and prepare for meetings with current and prospective donors.
- Develop and monitor fundraising project budgets.
- Directly supervise the Development and Communications Assistant, including training, delegation and performance management.
- Support the Board Development Committee.
- Collaborate with the contract grant writer to meet grant application and reporting deadlines.
- Plan and implement donor recognition and cultivation events.
Communications and Marketing
- Develop and implement an annual communications plan and strategy.
- Produce the impact report.
- Develop messaging for donor facing material.
- Create content for and oversee the newsletter and social media.
- Identify and amplify stories that describe our impact.
- Oversee website edits and updates.
- Create and work with the contracted graphic designer for printed marketing materials.
Compensation and Benefits
The compensation for the Development and Fundraising Director is $90,000 - $100,000 per year. This position is eligible for the following benefits:
